ONTARIO PROVINCIAL POLICE (OACP)
Richmond Hill Optometric Clinic offers The OACP Esterman Visual Field Test!
A comprehensive eye exam is required as part of the admissions process to the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP). At Richmond Hill Optometric Clinic, we are equipped with the Octopus 900, the most advanced technology for testing central and peripheral vision.
Our optometry clinic also tests for colour vision, acuity, binocularity, and other vision skills in order to be admitted to the Ontario police.
The following are the visual requirements for the Ontario police.

- Uncorrected visual acuity (without glasses) 20/40 both eyes open
- Corrected visual acuity (with glasses) 20/20 both eyes open
- Full peripheral vision
- normal color vision
- no eye disease that could impair your ability to function in the police force

ONTARIO FIRE ADMINISTRATION (OFCA)
The following are the visual requirements for the Ontario firefighter
- Uncorrected visual acuity (without glasses): 20/30 both eyes open
- Full peripheral vision
- normal color vision
- no eye disease that could impair your ability to function as a firefighter

ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED POLICE (RCMP)
Richmond Hill Optometric Clinic in Richmond Hill provides the required testing for applicants to RCMP.
The following are the visual requirements for the RCMP
- Corrected vision (with glasses or contacts): Visual acuity must be at least 6/6 (20/20) in one eye and 6/9 (20/30) in the other.
- Uncorrected vision (without glasses or contacts lenses): Visual acuity must be at least 6/18 (20/60) in each eye OR 6/12 (20/40) in one eye and at least 6/30 (20/100) in the other eye.
- Full peripheral vision
- Normal color vision
- No eye disease that could impair visual performance.
Candidates that have had laser surgery must wait a certain amount of time before having a vision examination:
Laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis (LASIK) surgery – 30 days
Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) surgery – 90 days
Implanted corrective lenses (ICL, PIOL) surgery with anterior chamber lens – 6 months
Implanted corrective lenses (ICL, PIOL) surgery with posterior chamber lens – 12 months
